Art is the means by which I give back some of the beauty and sublimity that I have had the privilege of experiencing in my life.

The goal of my work is to reflect the intimacy inherent in art creation as a celebration of the little miracles found in nature. My paintings originate as emotions which are then transformed through the dance of my imagination until they find their vibrant yet peaceful form in watercolor. Painting is, to quote William Wordsworth, "emotion recollected in tranquility."

I experience the creative process as a heightening of my senses affording a perceptual clarity which delivers me to a place transcending the opposites of good and evil, pleasure and pain. Researchers describe the mechanics of this experience as shifting from the left to the right brain, but I prefer to call it grace. It is from this place that I record my impressions of life. What results are paintings which exemplify my most deeply-felt hopes and aspirations for society and the world at large. In the words of Riane Eisler: "Art is a way of initiating a process, sensitizing us to fundamental spiritual and intensely practical, indeed survival, questions. The current vacuum which deconstructionist art reflects is actually an opening through which a fundamental re-mything will give us the necessary larger context within which to deal with our contemporary personal, social and ecological crises."

About The Art of Flowers

Flowers have changed the world. With an explosion of color, their appearance on earth blasted open the evolutionary door and provided a vital food source that supported the evolution of birds and mammals. For many centuries humans have included flowers in the most sacred of ceremonies: to celebrate friendship, marital union, and also to comfort grief and ease the shadow and darkness of death. We use flowers to express our emotions and therefore highlight the points of our journey through the cycle of life.

Nonetheless, we often take for granted the details of nature's miracles: bright warm sunlight, blue sky, new leaves and the unfolding of a single petal are hardly noticed as the regularity of everyday life clouds human awareness. I wish to shine a light on nature's sublime details so that viewers may be reawakened to this forces quiet, yet brilliant presence. Life-giving details explode around us although we remain oblivious to them as we toil in our man-made environments. I will be momentarily content if my paintings bring the viewer one step closer into the secret garden of nature's overlooked miracles. May we each take a moment to observe just one flower; may we let ourselves ponder the energy in each petal and stem. It is my passionate wish that my paintings bring you closer to this invigorating contemplation.
